Leveraging data and AI to achieve scientific discoveries is challenging. Data scientists can spend up to 80% of their time collecting, prepping, and accessing data.

In biomedical research, these lengthy and time-consuming processes can negatively affect clinical study timelines, the quality of collaboration between experts, and in some cases, patient outcomes.

We’re changing that.

At HPE, we understand there are challenges as HLS (healthcare and life-sciences) organizations transform to a hybrid world. Legacy infrastructure, complex operations, security risks, and inefficiencies all become barriers to extracting value from your data.

Biomedical researchers in life sciences, clinical, and academic institutions need access to store and structure significant amounts of diverse, real-world data to develop algorithms and accelerate discovery.

That's why we’re excited to announce a new HPE GreenLake cloud solution for Flywheel, in collaboration with NVIDIA. This new solution builds upon our extensive HLS portfolio that includes solutions for managing electronic health records platforms at health systems and managed infrastructure offerings aligned with different PACS Platforms.

Unlocking the full potential of medical research

Flywheel helps orchestrate and scale computation, analysis, and machine learning (ML) workflows. It provides an end-to-end research solution with all the tools needed for automated curation, image processing, and secure collaboration, so that researchers can focus on advancing medical discoveries.

Current “homegrown” data management systems don’t allow for easy and secure data, image, or report sharing. This limits collaboration between experts with valuable insights and experience and may add roadblocks to a clinical study’s timeline. To enable faster insights, Flywheel allows easier data sharing with outside organizations. Flywheel also supports compliance with the new 2023 NIH data sharing mandates, allowing researchers to collaborate while ensuring data privacy.

Recently, researchers used Flywheel to create a data repository of over 3,000 patients with Traumatic Brain Injuries. Using this “information commons,” medical professionals can develop precision medicine treatments for patients with Traumatic Brain Injuries and find solutions to better manage their long-term symptoms.

Propelling medical research with HPE and NVIDIA

HLS businesses have been hesitant to utilize the cloud because of concerns about extra costs for data retrieval, data sovereignty, and security. The new HPE GreenLake cloud solution not only addresses these concerns, but provides an automated, flexible, on-prem private cloud that you can use to run, support, and develop any of your clinical and biomedical apps.

We’ve made it simple to create your private cloud, as you use familiar hypervisor and container technologies to leverage your data. It is delivered as a service, with predictable costs and no upfront payment: You pay only for what you use. The HPE GreenLake for Flywheel solution is a comprehensive solution, packaged as a single purchase.

The HPE GreenLake platform is delivered as a full enterprise service with SLAs: We cover the full life cycle, including installation, provisioning, firmware updates, maintenance, operations, hardware, growth planning and support. HPE experts maintain all the needed infrastructure to run Flywheel’s software, freeing organizations from from the burden of day-to-day IT tasks while still experiencing full cloud benefits.

The HPE GreenLake for Flywheel solution is powered by NVIDIA GPUs to deliver a robust ML AI platform. More sophisticated use-cases that improve training accuracy such as federated learning are also enabled by NVIDIA FLARE (Federated Learning Application Runtime Environment) and HPE Swarm Learning which can be used for AI applications in medical imaging, genetic analysis, oncology, and COVID-19 research.
